I took this picture of a sparrow while I was in Calcutta, it was perched on my clothes line. It drew my awareness into so much; light in a world of darkness, joy in a world of sorrow, simplicities in a world of complexities. Now I live in Vancouver and perhaps that message is more prominent than ever. Complexities in Calcutta were of life and death, here they're smaller, but they own me. For lent I should fast from books and computers, unlimited music and all the clothes I don't need.

Four Things?!

I'll try Jesse, for you.

Places I've worked: What is work? Making money? So, okay:
Mostly Landscaping, on and off since I was 13 or so. In fact, when I was about that age I borrowed my Dad's lawn tractor and with our little trailer took a push mower, weed eater and gas with me down to a new model home to do their yard every week. They paid me $25 a shot. After a number of weeks I realized they were taking advantage of me, considering not only the time involved, but the tools as well. How would such a small wage ever pay for the many hours of ruthless terrain, and the abuse on the equipment? So I asked for $30. The nice lady in a suit said no, and so I said, "well then it just isn't worth my time."

A summer a few years ago I helped my brother and friend build a huge skate ramp. The township let the kids use it for about two weeks, then after a couple of months the disturbed mayor had it torn down. Apparently it was too noisy for one neighbor across the river.

A couple years before then I worked in an office programming GPS units for rental cars and transport trucks. I felt quite pro. But offices are like aquariums for humans. So I quit.

I made some money when I was younger with motorbikes, buying, riding, fixing then selling them.

Four movies:
When it comes to movies I don't have any favorites. Some are really good, some okay, and the rest are a waste of my time and their money. They should have given me the money. Maybe I'm overwhelmed by the terrible amount of not very good ones. I watched Cinderella Man with a couple of my brothers around Christmas time, that was fun. It put me on the end of my seat. I really like documentaries, or at least the idea. "Dogtown and Z-boys" is very well done. "The Winking Circle" is unbeatable. The new "Wal-Mart , the High cost of Low Prices" documentary is ridiculously shocking. A Local filmaker made "Scaredsacred" and the story there is amazing. "Born into Brothels" is a good one, fairly low quality. but a great story of children in Calcutta, I believe also made by some Canadians from T.O. area. On another level, Lord of the Rings is beautiful.... Where am I going? I guess there are a few...

Four places I've lived:
Uxbridge Ontario. This is where my crazy family resides. This is the birth spot of winkworld. There is so much energy and passion to change the world happening over there that it makes me homesick.

Harpenden, England. I worked as a staff person for a social justice/discipleship program out of YWAM Harpenden . From there moved to Rwanda for three months, and helped YWAM Rwanda .

I also stayed in Calcutta for three months, but does that count as "living"? Volunteered with the Missionaries Of Charity, Mother Teresa's Order. This has also been hugely influential on my life. As world renown as they are, they don't have a website.

I live in Vancouver now, on the quiet street of West 22nd. Avenue. But I have lived here before, four years ago with YWAM Vancouver, as a student., and have come a couple of other times for the sake of travelling.

Four albums
To Burn Again -No Innocent Victim: hardcore music with real lyrics
Caught By a Window -Canadian band "Pilate" makes music perfectly. I write that after having this album for a few years, and still I could listen to it anytime.
Burning Bridges -Haste the Day: more hardcore, more breakdowns and good lyrics.
The second last Album of "As I Lay Dying". I'm not going to take the time to look it up. An overwhelming musical energy.
Rocky Votolato writes good music, acoustic and passionate, but not at all flaky.

Writers:
Brennan Manning
Henri Nouwen
Jean Vanier
Ronald Sider
C.S. Lewis

Vacations:
Did Florida a couple of times with my Dad and brothers. Went once in a crappy VW van of my brother's. Had to push-start it, and almost froze to death. I remember waking up in the middle of the night from my sleep in the back, and my brother Jody was driving, with Will sitting in the passenger seat. Dad was sitting on the rear-facing seat with his hands over a Coleman stove, flaming and sliding around on the floor of the van.

I drove to Cali with my super rad friend Matt, but in a nice VW. My own. We almost froze to death, and I had to push start it all the way home. (Made it most interesting after the boarder guard searched it and let me go.) San Diego is choice.

Stayed on an Island off the coast of Thailand, after volunteering with YWAM in a town I can't remember the name of. Totally beautiful, super economical. Rented a dirt bike and got yelled at for riding it on the beach. What's the problem?

My sights are set on Goa now... I don't think I'm a good vactioner though. Maybe as part of a India trek and documentary.

Food:
Almost anything Dutch or Indian, but Thai food ranks above those sometimes. Without meat is always extra nice, for me, and the rest of the world.

Places I'd rather be:
India
Rwanda
On an open road riding a motorcycle on a warm summer day.

Sites:
Beside what I've already linked on my page, CBC radio three. It could use some work, but is a good resource for music.

Need to buy something? Get it used at: http://vancouver.craigslist.org/

Have I put up The Voice of the Martyrs in my links? (http://www.persecution.com/) Some challenging but important info for Christians concerned about what is happening to other Christians around the world.

So there you have it: my life on a blog. There is nothing else to know. This is great, just wonderful. Thanks Jesse, I'll blame you, now I hate "blogging".

If you believe what you like in the gospels, and reject what you don't like, it is not the gospel you believe, but yourself.
Saint Augustine

There have been times when the Orthodox Way has challenged my understanding of things. But something that the Orthodox Church does have going for it is that they don't merely interpret the scriptures; their knowledge of the Bible is not trendy. Neither is their Tradition dead, contrarily, I can hardly get enough of it.
